Study on Watchtowers in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Abstract

National Achievements Library of Philosophy and Social Sciences: Study on Watchtowers in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, on the basis of in-depth and extensive field survey, comes up with the theory for the first time that the watchtowers in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau can be divided into two categories by building materials, forms, internal structure and building characteristics: Hengduan Mountainous Region Type and Himalaya Region Type. The former centers around the plateau in western Sichuan, or eastern Tibet region, and the latter centers around Tibetan sub-YarlungZangbo River.  Such division is a major breakthrough in the overall knowledge of the watchtowers in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, reflecting their evolution path, features and local traditions in the development of the watchtowers.
