The seminar commemorating the 50th anniversary of China's restoration of its lawful seat in the United Nations held in Beijing
Wang Yi, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister, speaks by video at a seminar commemorating the 50th anniversary of China's restoration of its lawful seat in the United Nations (UN) in Beijing on September 8th.
Wang yi said that in 1971, the 26th United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, deciding to restore all lawful rights of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations. Over the past 50 years, China has acted in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and become an important contributor to world peace, the biggest contributor to global development and a staunch defender of the international order.
He said the world is at a new historical crossroads and the international community needs to join hands to meet challenges and achieve common development more than ever before. All countries should build consensus and join forces. First, we should uphold multilateralism and safeguard world peace and stability. Second, strengthen cooperation in fighting COVID-19 and build a defense line for life and health. Third, give priority to development and promote common prosperity of the world. Fourth, uphold openness and inclusiveness and build an open world economy. Fifth, improve climate governance and build a clean and beautiful world. Sixth, enhance exchanges and mutual learning to promote the progress of human civilization.
He said that China will firmly uphold the central role of the United Nations in international affairs, firmly stand on the right side of history, continue to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, join hands with all progressive forces in the world, and make unremitting efforts for the lofty cause of peace and development of mankind.
