Sept. 6th, the launching ceremony of Sanxingdui Archaeological Excavation 2020 was held in Guanghan, Sichuan Province. Dai Yunkang, deputy director of Publicity Department of Sichuan Provincial Party Committee, Wang Yi, deputy director-general of Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Xu Guangyong, vice mayor of Deyang City, Wang Wei, member of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Huo Wei, dean of the School of History and Culture, Sichuan University and so on were invited to attend; over 60 representatives from Sichuan Cultural Heritage Bureau and Sichuan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology and attended the ceremony.
Since the 1930s, Ge Weihan, Feng Hanji and other scholars have made great contributions to the study of Sanxingdui. The discovery of Sanxingdui Sacrificial Pit in 1986 “awakened the whole world”, as the seat of the ancient Shu king, was widely recognized in the academic circles. After 34 years, with the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, Sichuan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology within a number of research institutions have resumed scientific excavation of the Sanxingdui sacrificial area. The initiation of archaeological work is of great significance for protecting and inheriting the ancient Shu civilization and building the cultural and tourism corridor of Bashu.
