2025 Rural Children’s Development Forum Held

Chinadaily.com.cnBeijing, Dec. 9-- The 2025 Rural Children’s Development Forum was held in Beijing on December 9. Representatives from government departments, experts and scholars, public welfare institutions, enterprises and other relevant parties gathered together to discuss “Integration and Empowerment to Build a New Ecosystem for Rural Children’s Development”.
Under the high attention of the Party and the government, China’s children’s cause has achieved remarkable accomplishments. The policy system has been increasingly improved, children’s health levels have continued to rise, educational equity has been constantly advanced, and welfare security has developed from a supplementary type to a moderately inclusive type. However, the current development of children’s causes still faces problems of imbalance and insufficiency. There are differences between urban and rural areas and among different regions, and the service capacity at the grassroots level needs to be strengthened. How to promote the in-depth integration in the field of children’s cause development, empower child workers and service providers, and drive the high-quality development of children’s cause has become a topic of high concern to all sectors of society.
Liu Wenkui, executive vice chairman of the China Foundation for Rural Development, said, “The core of building a new ecosystem for rural children’s development lies in gathering wisdom from all sides and building social consensus to jointly explore the path for constructing a new ecosystem for rural children’s development.” This new ecosystem cannot do without the deep integration of policies, resources, services and professional forces, and also requires the collaborative empowerment of the government, enterprises, public welfare organizations and academic institutions.
2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the “Tongban Mama” project of the China Foundation for Rural Development. Since its launch in 2005, the project has received over 140 million social donations, raised approximately 260 million yuan, and served nearly 900,000 children in total. At this forum, Professor Tao Chuanjin from the School of Sociology of Beijing Normal University delivered a keynote speech titled “Exploring the Value of the Tongban Mom Project”. He pointed out: “The ‘Companion Mom’ project has created three levels of value, and each one is creative: it has provided precise services for left-behind children and children in difficult circumstances.” A professional team of children’s service personnel has been cultivated for rural areas. Promote the continuous improvement of the public service management system in the project area.
This forum was jointly hosted by the China Foundation for Rural Development, Alibaba Foundation, and the Beijing Chen Jianghe Foundation. Additionally, two roundtable discussions were held, titled “Integration and Empowerment: Building a Diversified Service System for Rural Children”and “Focusing on the Practical Path of Early Development for Children Aged 0-3”.
